What exactly is a Role Playing Game in video games and RPG elements? Can u give some Wii examples of RPG games

I always hear people talking about video games that are role playing or RPG games. I don't really understand what they mean by this. What makes a RPG game a RPG game? What are some of the elements of an RPG game? Can you give some expamples of Wii games that are RPG or have RPG elements?

Thanks!!!What exactly is a Role Playing Game in video games and RPG elements? Can u give some Wii examples of RPG games
The terms for game genres are confusing because games fit many genres now, but...

an RPG usually gives you control of multiple characters. These may be controlled as a group (like in Final Fantasy 12: Revanant Wings), one at a time, or at different times in the game. You usually control the main character(s) for the entire game, like in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. There is also usually a level and experience system, and a journey to save the world/country/etc., though it differs. You usually can collect different weapons, characters, armor, and whatnot, and the characters usually have special abilities/techniques that are always available or available at different times. I hope this helps!

An RPG is basically a game where you are a specific character and it is your role to play as him/her, you are them for all purposes. Zelda is a perfect example of an RPG. Don't get these confused with games like Red Steel or Mario Galaxy. Those are different because in Red Steel all you do is the fighting parts, you don't necessarily do a lot to advance the plot line, while in Mario Galaxy you are there to just fight bad guys and save the princess while collecting stars.
a good rpg game for Wii is Avatar: the last airbender

it is kool cause u can controll 4 char but still is rpg but like grpg (group rpg)
A traditional Role-Playing game is one where, you guessed, you play a role. This meant more in table top games, where you actually ACTED like your character. With the natural progression into computer and video games, RPG took on a slightly different meaning.

A RPG generally means your character or characters grow and develop over the course of the game, improving on statistics, acquiring cooler gear, gaining experience and abilities, etc.

Examples of popular RPGs would be:

Final Fantasy

World of Warcraft

Mass Effect

Oblivion

However, to my knowledge there isn't a plethora of RPGs for the Wii. The innovative control style lends itself more to action games.
RPGs in video game term follow the mechanics style of Dungeons and Dragons, that is to say how much damage you can take, how much damage an attack deals, and whether an attack hits is based on random chance. Zelda is not an RPG, because whether you hit is based on player skill and character positioning, not a hidden random number.

Combat in a video game RPG works from a menu system in most cases, and most of the time, battles occur randomly after some number of steps (except for boss battles).

Wii, as of yet, does not have any standard RPGs, as RPGs tend to take the longest to make, so you rarely see any in the first 2 years of a console's life. Fire Emblem is a Strategy RPG on the Wii, wherein you move on a grid to get into position to attack, but the normal RPG rules for an attack's success are the same.
